Research Support for Using Yoga in the Classroom
Research that we are grateful to have had access to inform our work and support the growth of our program.

This case describes a qualitative case study of a yoga program which involved direct-instruction yoga practice for students at an urban, alternative school.
This research is the fruit of a collaborative friendship between Joanne Spence, a yoga service provider, and Andrea Hyde, a university faculty member.
This research was an invaluable resource and inspiration for the implementation of the program at Avalon Intermediate and we are eternally grateful to Joanne Spence and Andrea Hyde for their work and willingness to share and guide.
Another invaluable resource for our program written by Amy. L. Accardo outlining how a yoga-based school-wide positive behavior support (SWPBS) may provide a foundation for teaching mindfulness and self-regulation in K-12 schools. Here, the use of yoga as a SWPBS was examined through a review of existing literature and interviews of yoga program facilitators.
